Desert Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance theatre company that was founded in 1979. The company has performed and/or toured Arizona, Mexico, Texas, California, Nevada, Vermont, New York, New Mexico and Cuba. Its Artist-in-Residence and Arts-in-Education programs include a variety of quality programs offered to schools and communities that are inspiring, entertaining and educational, including: master classes, lecture demonstrations and performances.
Desert Dance Theatre has an eclectic variety of dances in the current repertory, which range from classical, comical, abstract and theatrical. The company specializes in theme-related programs that focus on cultural diversity, social issues and about the lives of prominent people who have fought for freedom in America through its music/dance/drama productions such as “Free At Last” (Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), “Sister Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman,” “Judgments” (a commentary on racial and social issues), and “The Raina Project” (a commentary on teen violence). The company has also collaborated with String Sounds (string quartet), touring and performing over thousands of children’s programs in elementary schools since 1985.
Through its Guest Choreographer Series, the company also performs commissioned works by choreographers of national and international acclaim. The new works continue to enhance the diversity of the current repertory. DDT has performed commissioned dance works by choreographers: Roni Koresh, H.T. Chen, Dian Dong, Cliff Keuter, Neta Pulvermacher, Bill Evans, Phyllis Haskell, Joan Woodbury, Laurie Eisenhower, Frances Ethel Smith Cohen, Anandha Ray and many local choreographers.

Wendy Ellis received her BA and MFA in dance while performing professionally throughout the western states with renowned choreographers and agents. During her dance career, she became a dance educator at various community colleges in California, Texas, and Arizona. Wendy’s passion for this art form was evident in how her students responded to her classes and choreography. She became co-director of the college dance company, which allowed her to create unique works. These performances opened up more opportunities, and she became a recipient of a choreography grant, which she used to start her own small dance company, Align Dance Theatre. This venture allowed her creative voice to expand, explore ideas with other performing artists in the community, and produce an evening of the arts. Wendy actively seeks opportunities to further her passion for dance and share it with others. Wendy has experience teaching all genres of dance and choreographing multiple styles at private dance studios, theater companies, performing groups, and regional dance companies. Her love for dance motivated her to become a multi-certified Pilates instructor and owner of her own studio, Studio Kinetics in Cave Creek: working with dancers, professional athletes, rehabilitation clients, and fitness enthusiasts. Archana Alagiri, a Bharatanatyam performer for 25 years, trained under Smt. Anitha Guha in Chennai. She received the Bharat Kalachar scholarship for three years and the Iyal Isai scholarship from the Tamil Nadu government. An Indian Raga fellow, Archana has performed globally, including the Arizona Dance Festival.
Her work was funded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts in 2022 and 2023. Passionate about rhythm theory and stage lighting, she continues her training with Smt. Aishwarya Balasubramanian in New Hampshire and teaches at Anubhava Fine Arts in Chandler, AZ, nurturing the next generation of dancers.

Chaos Theory Dance is directed by Billbob Brown, who received his BFA in Dance from ASU, and MA in Dance History from UNM. Gauri Bhobe is a Professional Performing Artist of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form of India. She is a recipient of a Diploma in Natyashastra from Nalanda University and has received multiple Scholarships from the Government of India.

In collaboration, New Orleans native Grace Crain and New York native Koby Slavin form a dynamic interdisciplinary partnership challenging the limits of art. Choreographer, performer, educator, and yoga instructor, Crain, is pursuing her MFA in Dance at ASU after earning a BFA at Texas State University. Her interests include Somatics and modern dance. Slavin, a clarinetist and saxophonist, pushes the boundaries of the bass clarinet. Christine Baltes (1954–2018) was a pioneering figure of the Giordano Technique and a Master Gyrotonic Trainer. She founded Jazz Spectrum Dance Company in 1982 and dedicated her life to advancing jazz dance through education and choreography. Baltes served on faculty at various institutions and created over 40 jazz-ballet works for the company, leaving a lasting artistic legacy. Pooja Raghunath is the Artistic Director and Instructor of KDC Performing Arts. She is a professionally trained classical dancer proficient in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam. Starting her performance journey at age 4, she continues to pursue her passion with fervor. Dancing is her source of dopamine, and performing on stage gives her a thrilling boost of happy hormones. Pooja has an impressive track record, winning numerous prizes at Kerala state-level competition during her school and college days. The power behind Shane O'Hara's work is deeply rooted in the human condition. He has shared his work throughout the U.S. and Europe including concerts in Lisbon, Athens, Krakow, Paris, New York, and Washington, D.C. He has received grants from the USIS, PA Council for the Arts and Virginia Commission for the Arts as well as a Fulbright Fellowship to Portugal. O'Hara is a Professor Emeritus from James Madison University and teaches at Old Dominion University. Desert Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance theatre company that was founded in 1979. The company has performed and/or toured Arizona, Mexico, Texas, California, Nevada, Vermont, New York, New Mexico and Cuba. Its Artist-in-Residence and Arts-in-Education programs include a variety of quality programs offered to schools and communities that are inspiring, entertaining and educational, including: master classes, lecture demonstrations and performances.
Desert Dance Theatre has an eclectic variety of dances in the current repertory, which range from classical, comical, abstract and theatrical. Wendy Ellis received her BA and MFA in dance while performing professionally throughout the western states with renowned choreographers and agents. During her dance career, she became a dance educator at various community colleges in California, Texas, and Arizona. Wendy’s passion for this art form was evident in how her students responded to her classes and choreography. She became co-director of the college dance company, which allowed her to create unique works. These performances opened up more opportunities, and she became a recipient of a choreography grant, which she used to start her own small dance company, Align Dance Theatre. This venture allowed her creative voice to expand, explore ideas with other performing artists in the community, and produce an evening of the arts. Wendy actively seeks opportunities to further her passion for dance and share it with others. Archana Alagiri, a Bharatanatyam performer for 25 years, trained under Smt. Anitha Guha in Chennai. She received the Bharat Kalachar scholarship for three years and the Iyal Isai scholarship from the Tamil Nadu government. An Indian Raga fellow, Archana has performed globally, including the Arizona Dance Festival.

In collaboration, New Orleans native Grace Crain and New York native Koby Slavin form a dynamic interdisciplinary partnership challenging the limits of art. Choreographer, performer, educator, and yoga instructor, Crain, is pursuing her MFA in Dance at ASU after earning a BFA at Texas State University. Her interests include Somatics and modern dance. Slavin, a clarinetist and saxophonist, pushes the boundaries of the bass clarinet. Christine Baltes (1954–2018) was a pioneering figure of the Giordano Technique and a Master Gyrotonic Trainer. She founded Jazz Spectrum Dance Company in 1982 and dedicated her life to advancing jazz dance through education and choreography. Baltes served on faculty at various institutions and created over 40 jazz-ballet works for the company, leaving a lasting artistic legacy. Movement Source is a non-profit, multi-media contemporary dance company in Arizona, celebrating 37 years of dance. The company is dedicated to creating innovative dance works each season and performing in non-traditional spaces as well as formal theater settings. Movement Source brings dance to our community through workshops, classes, and performances. The mission of the company is to make dance accessible and inspiring to a wide range of audiences and connect dancers and artists of all genres through collaboration, creativity and movement.

Marko Westwood, Artistic Director of Nevada Repertory Dance Theater, started dancing quite some time ago and remembers it fondly in black & white. Mr. Westwood worked with talented individuals and gifted choreographers over the years. He formed NRDT in 2010, in 2014 due to the awesomeness of the company, Mr. Westwood stepped away from dance, then 9 years later, he returned. By special request from the AARP, Mr. Westwood will get a free membership by presenting a solo at the Arizona Dance Festival. Pooja Raghunath is the Artistic Director and Instructor of KDC Performing Arts. She is a professionally trained classical dancer proficient in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam. Starting her performance journey at age 4, she continues to pursue her passion with fervor. Dancing is her source of dopamine, and performing on stage gives her a thrilling boost of happy hormones. Pooja has an impressive track record, winning numerous prizes at Kerala state-level competition during her school and college days. Notably, she was honored with the esteemed title of "Kalathilakam" in 2005, a prestigious award in the Kerala Youth Festival. She is presently instructing classes in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi in Chandler and North Phoenix.

In Arizona, Shahrzad Mazoury, founder of Golchin Dance, fuses Persian, ballet, and modern styles, creating vibrant performances that spotlight Iran’s cultural heritage. Complementing their work is Navid Mohammadpour, a Toronto-based musician and educator who has been performing and teaching Tanbour and Daf since 2013, nurturing the next generation of talent.

The power behind Shane O'Hara's work is deeply rooted in the human condition. He has shared his work throughout the U.S. and Europe including concerts in Lisbon, Athens, Krakow, Paris, New York, and Washington, D.C. He has received grants from the USIS, PA Council for the Arts and Virginia Commission for the Arts as well as a Fulbright Fellowship to Portugal. O'Hara is a Professor Emeritus from James Madison University and teaches at Old Dominion University. He is the "Artistic Director" of the Daniel Nagrin Foundation in charge of the setting of Mr. Nagrin's solos.

Their award-winning film Insert Coin to Play screened at the 32nd Beijing International Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize / 2nd Grand Prize at Compagnie des Oeillets MATUVU 2025 in Paris. Yao also exhibited at Le Petit Versailles in New York and the XV Florence Biennale in Italy.
