Sister  Moses

The story of Harriet Tubman,
leader of the Underground Railroad,
freer of captive slaves.
Picture
Sister Moses: the Story of Harriet Tubman, is based on the  life and work of Harriet Tubman, the anti-slavery activist who successfully escaped from slavery and later risked her own life to lead more than 300 slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad. Through dance, music and drama the story both entertains and educates young and old audience members alike.

Desert Dance Theatre has been performing this rich and deeply moving work for 25 years, bringing dancers, chorus singers, narrator, musicians, and dancers to thousands and thousands of audience members
in schools, communities, and dance festivals across the country.

"There is a powerful difference between reading about slave auctions in books and seeing one physicalized before you. Desert Dance Theatre’s "Sister Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman" expresses a painful and courageous history in just such an immediate way, and audiences have responded to its power."   --THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE
